Filtration media is where the real work happens. Whether you're running a small display tank or a commercial RAS, the right media keeps water clearer, healthier, and more biologically stable. Our range covers mechanical trapping, biological colonisation, and targeted ammonia reduction.

BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE & FLOW

We don't stock generic media. Every product is selected for measurable surface area, durability, and compatibility with professional aquatic systems.

High Surface Area

More protected surface per litre means faster cycle times, stronger biofilms, and better handling of ammonia spikes.

System Fit

Engineered for MBBR reactors, bead filters, trickle towers, sumps and canister filters — not just "works anywhere."

Australian Support

Backed by the BTA technical team. We help you choose media by flow rate, bioload and system volume.

OUR FILTRATION MEDIA RANGE

Boost nitrification, remove ammonia, or enhance gas exchange — choose the media that matches your system's goals.

QUICK SELECTION GUIDE

Match the media to your system's primary need. Most setups work best with a staged approach combining mechanical and biological media.

01
🛡️

Mechanical First

Start with coarse foam or filter mat to capture solids before they reach biological stages.

02
🦠

Biological Core

Use K+, Hel-X, bioballs or Marine Pure spheres as your primary nitrifying bed.

03

Ammonia Targeting

Add TAN-X Chip when ammonia residuals need to stay low under high feed loads.

04
🌊

Gas Exchange

HDPE bioballs or trickle sections improve oxygen transfer and degassing.

MEDIA FAQ

Q. Which media is best for a high-bio-load RAS?
For high feed loads we recommend Hel-X 13KLL+ or TAN-X Chip as the primary biological stage, supported by mechanical foam upstream. TAN-X is specifically rated for ammonia removal under heavy loading.
Q. Can I mix MBBR media types?
Yes — many systems use a blend of K+ Media and Hel-X in the same reactor to balance flow-through dynamics and total surface area. Contact us for mixing ratios based on your reactor volume.
Q. How often should mechanical media be cleaned?
Clean mechanical foam or filter mat when you see a noticeable flow reduction. Rinse in removed tank water to preserve beneficial bacteria living on the surface.

NOT SURE WHICH MEDIA YOU NEED?

Our technical team can assess your system volume, bioload, and filtration goals to recommend the optimal combination of media.
