PRIMUS magnetic drive pumps use magnetic coupling to transmit motor torque through a sealed containment shell. The impeller shaft is fully enclosed — there is no mechanical seal to wear, no seal replacement schedule and no leakage path to the motor or environment. PP and GFRPP chemical-resistant construction suits aquaculture, hydroponics, water treatment and industrial recirculation, with BSP threaded and flanged connections across the range.

Magnetic coupling
Magnets transmit torque through the shell wall. The outer drive ring on the motor turns the inner impeller ring through the sealed barrier — zero physical contact, zero wear path.

Frequently asked questions
What is a magnetic drive pump?
A mag drive pump uses magnetic coupling to transmit torque from the motor to the impeller through a sealed containment shell. No mechanical seal means zero leakage — the fluid never contacts the motor.
220V vs 380V — which do I need?
220V single-phase models (PMD-35 to PMD-220) plug into a standard outlet — ideal for smaller systems. 380V three-phase models (PMD3-130 to PMD3-900HD) need a three-phase supply and are wired on-site — suited to commercial installations.
BSP thread vs flange connections?
Models up to DN65 use BSP female thread for easy plumbing integration. DN80 and DN100 models use flange connections for secure industrial pipe mating.
Can PRIMUS mag drive pumps run dry?
No. The pump must be primed before operation — running dry can damage the impeller and magnetic coupling. Always ensure the pump is flooded before starting.
Are these suitable for continuous duty?
Yes. All PRIMUS mag drive pumps are rated S1 continuous duty — designed to run 24/7 without interruption.
What about chemical compatibility?
Smaller models use PP (polypropylene); larger models use GFRPP (glass-filled polypropylene). Both handle a wide range of chemicals, salts and mild acids — check compatibility with your specific fluid before ordering.
