BTA Nylon Filter Bags
Heavy-duty nylon media bags, double-stitched and built to hold fine resins and small filter medias - GFO, carbon, granular medias down to 0.5 mm - securely in your sump, reactor or filter housing. Every bag seals with a drawstring, and every bag ships with a free bag clip for a second line of security.
These are media bags first and foremost - built to hold filter media, not to be the filter themselves. Fine resins, granular medias and small-partical medias like our FERRIX-03 GFO or our CARBOX 830 (which runs down to a 0.5 mm particle) all sit perfectly in these bags, as does just about any other filtration media you care to run. You can use them for pre-filtration if you like - but holding media is the primary job, which is exactly why every bag includes a drawstring and a free bag clip.
Why media bags
The difference
Double-stitched, heavy duty
Every seam is double-stitched in heavy-duty nylon. These bags take a full load of media without splitting, and they clean up ready for the next refill.
Drawstring - the secure seal
Zippers get gunk caught in the teeth. Velcro clogs and loses its grip. A drawstring pulls tight around the media and stays tight - the most secure closure for the job.
Free bag clip - second seal
Drawstrings hold tight, but getting them undone can be a fight. Each bag includes a free bag clip as a secondary seal - use it if you want it, skip it if you don't. It's on the house either way.

Five micron ratings from a fine 45 µm weave up to a free-flowing 175 µm. Finer weaves hold the smallest resins and medias; coarser weaves keep flow high around bulk media.

How to use the clip
The fold-and-clip method
- Fill the bag with your media of choice.
- Fold the top of the bag over so you have a folded section that is not as wide as the clip.
- Clip the bag clip over the folded section to lock the media in.
- Our favourite: fold the corners in on the top of the bag, clip over the top, then fold it down. But honestly - do it any way you like.
Drawstring or clip - your call
The drawstring is the primary seal and the most secure closure for media. The clip is the free secondary seal for extra peace of mind. Use one, use both, or use neither - the bag works either way.
Pre-filtration? Optional
These bags will happily pull detritus and fines out of a flow as a pre-filter if that suits your setup - but holding media is what they're built for.

CARBOX 830
Granular activated carbon that runs down to a 0.5 mm particle. One of the finest medias you can bag - and these bags hold it without issue.

Are these filter bags or media bags?

Why a drawstring instead of a zipper or velcro?
Zippers get gunk caught in the teeth and jam. Velcro clogs up and lets go. A drawstring offers the most security for the media - it pulls tight, stays tight, and nothing gets stuck in it.
What's the bag clip for?
Getting a drawstring undone can sometimes be a little tricky, so every bag ships with a bag clip as a secondary seal - free of charge. Fold the top over so the folded section is narrower than the clip, then clip it over. Or fold the corners in, clip, and fold. Do it any way you like - or don't use it at all. Totally optional.
Which micron rating should I pick?
Finer weaves (45-75 µm) hold the smallest resins and medias. Coarser weaves (150-175 µm) keep flow high around bulk media. 125 µm is a solid all-rounder. If you're not sure, contact us for sizing - it's free.
Are they aquarium safe?
Yes - 100% plastic construction, totally aquarium safe. No metal parts to rust or leach into fresh or salt water.
Can I reuse them?
Yes. The heavy-duty nylon and double-stitched seams stand up to rinsing and repeated cleaning cycles, so a bag keeps working load after load.
