Purpose-Selected

Every strain is chosen for, adapted to, and blended specifically for aquatic systems — not repurposed from terrestrial or industrial probiotics. In Microplex, each of the 25 strains was selected for a specific role, from ammonia oxidation (Nitrosomonas/Nitrobacter) to predatory pathogen elimination (Bdellovibrio). In Nitroplex, 16 strains are cultured together as a true consortium — not blended post-fermentation — replicating the synergistic community found in a mature, high-performance biofilter.

Application-Specific Blending

Targeted Consortia

Different jobs need different communities. Each blend leverages a strain mix matched to its purpose. SUB-6 deploys six Bacillus strains (B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. megaterium, B. pumilus, B. mucilaginosus) for sludge digestion and mineral mobilisation. PMX8 deploys a different arsenal (B. velezensis, Paenibacillus polymyxa, Streptomyces hydrogenans, Bdellovibrio, Rhodotorula) for pathogen mitigation. Some strains crossover deliberately — B. subtilis and B. licheniformis appear in both — but the blends are engineered for different outcomes.

Antimicrobial Metabolites

Our Bacillus and Streptomyces strains continuously produce a devastating cocktail of antimicrobial metabolites — natural compounds that suppress pathogens long after the live cells have settled or been consumed. These include lipopeptides (surfactin, iturin, fengycin, bacillomycin D, lichenysin), antibiotics (bacilysin, difficidin, macrolactin, bacitracin, polymyxins), and anti-mycobacterial compounds (streptcytosines, atrovimycin, desertomycins, ilamycins). This is chemical warfare at the microbial level — bactericidal, not just bacteriostatic.

Specialised Strains for Disease Mitigation

Multi-Pathway Defence

BTA strains are selected for their ability to produce a wide spectrum of bioactive compounds and enzymes that actively protect aquatic organisms. Rather than relying on a single mechanism, each blend deploys multiple lines of attack — chemical warfare, direct predation and a broad enzyme arsenal — giving you resistance-proof, multi-layered disease mitigation.

Antifungal Compounds Paenibacillus polymyxa produces fusaricidins, paenibacillins and pelgipeptins that suppress Fusarium, Saprolegnia and Candida. Chitinase enzymes actively degrade fungal cell walls.
Antimicrobial Compounds Bacteriocins and antimicrobial peptides — surfactin, iturin, fengycin, bacillomycin D, lichenysin, bacilysin, difficidin, macrolactin, polymyxins — that destroy or inhibit Vibrio, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus and Edwardsiella. Confirmed ≥70% reduction in peer-reviewed studies.
Antiviral Compounds Interferon-like metabolites and viral interference compounds that reduce viral load and replication. Bacillus strains produce compounds that interfere with viral attachment and intracellular replication in aquatic hosts.
Antiparasitic Compounds Compounds that deter or suppress protozoan parasites and external parasitic infections. Chitinase and alginate lyase degrade protective biofilms and cyst structures that shield parasites.
Direct Attack by Predatory Strains Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a living predator that hunts, invades, consumes and destroys Gram-negative pathogens from the inside out. Each predator bursts into 3–6 new predators, continuing the hunt. Confirmed elimination of V. parahaemolyticus, V. alginolyticus, A. hydrophila, A. veronii, E. tarda and E. coli. Cannot harm fish, invertebrates, or beneficial nitrifiers.
Beneficial Enzyme Production A comprehensive enzyme arsenal: proteases (subtilisin, keratinase, neutral protease), carbohydrases (amylase, cellulase, xylanase, pectinase), lipases (lipase, phospholipase, phytase), biofilm degraders (chitinase, DNase, alginate lyase), and water quality enzymes (catalase, urease, laccase). Together they break down organic waste, support digestion, degrade pathogenic biofilms, and remineralise nutrients for the broader microbial community.
